How I gained 8kg in 4 months as an almost advanced lifter without counting calories and without steroids.
I've been training for years, and I've had more than one frustrating period of not seeing the results I so desperately wanted. Just as I've been training for years, I've also spent almost as long trying to find the holy grail of natural muscle gain. When I think I've found it, I quickly hit a plateau, and the results don't come as fast as I'd hoped. Without further ado, let me explain what I did this time that I hadn't done in years, which is why I had noob gains. Some friends still hint that I used anabolic steroids. First, I did a strength program focused on improving leg mass. I gained a full inch in my thighs without losing conditioing. This plan included adjustments, periodization and deloads as needed. Second, and very importantly, I was at a point in my life where I could afford to eat, rest, and feel good. Basically, everything was fine, and my biggest concern was keeping it that way. Regarding food, I didn't really count calories, but I tried to eat a lot and several times a day, between four and six times a day. Although sometimes it was difficult to eat, and occasionally I would take a day or two to eat less so my appetite would return and I could eat more in the following days. This was the hardest thing to do, since it answered my question of why my muscle mass wasn't increasing noticeably for so many years, and it was as simple as not eating enough to grow. To get into some specifics, my diet was basically:
